Friday night, Bain & I went to a musical at our church and we were totally impressed with the talent of our church members. The title of the musical was "The Gift" but I was most impressed with how gifted our church is to have so much talent. It must be wonderful to open your mouth to sing and have such a beautiful voice as some of those in our church.
The musical was really wonderful ... great sets, costumes, singers ... and the story was very cute, too. A young couple in the late 1800s wants to buy each other a nice gift for Christmas so they each sell something to buy the other a gift ... except that they buy each other gifts that go along with the sold items. The woman cuts her hair and sells it to buy a gold watch chain and the man sells his watch to buy jeweled combs for his wife's hair.
The point of giving gifts at Christmas, though, is more than just letting people know that we love and care for them. It is a reminder that God's son was the ultimate gift to us. As with any gift, we have to reach out and accept it from the giver ... otherwise, it just goes to waste. Hopefully, we all will take the gift from God with the passion and rejoicing that is due such a wonderful gift ... It is God's way of showing us how much he loves and cares for us.
