While I was cleaning our Hershey Lodge room on Tuesday morning (final day of our trip) and loading the rental car for the drive to the airport, the boys and Bain went for one last quick game of putt putt. By the time I finished, it was almost lunch time. We headed for Philly and only ended up with about an hour and a half to look around the historic area before we had to drive on over to the airport.
We couldn't get into Independence Hall ... sold out for the day. So, we crossed the street and walked quickly through the Liberty Bell exhibit. You could spend an hour reading all the info they have on the Bell. We breezed on up to the actual spot and decided to have the boys fight the crowd for a photo op - even though they really had no idea what this big Bell was/is.
Hank was mostly interested in the ribbon divider ... the one that you aren't supposed to cross so that no one gets too close to the Bell and so that no one touches the Bell. He proceeds to play with the ribbon and to cross over right next to the Bell. Just a second before he leaned on it, Bain nudged through the crowd and grabbed him.
We did end up with a nice photo ... and then we were out of there and on to Ben Franklin's grave and Betsy Ross' house. We snapped a couple of photos at the Ben Franklin gravesite. BJ really liked seeing that because he had read some stories at school on Mr. Franklin. The younger boys wanted to swipe the pennies that lay on the top of his grave. See the little hand in the photo trying to sneak the pennies? That would be one of my kids' little hands ... don't worry, though, the boys didn't get away with any penny swiping! :)
Betsy's house was packed with tourists so we didn't go inside. The boys are just too small, anyway, to really have an interest in all this "history stuff." Maybe on another trip, when they are all older ...
