Bain's dad retired from Seaboard Rail after many years working with the railroad ... so all the train stuff in Strausburg, PA was really fun for him. This little town has a full-size steam engine train ride (about 45 minutes) through the corn fields ... past the "ghost farm" where the train's whistle is echoed back ... past the corn maize farm ... and past Carpenter's Pass. Evidently, the original settlers in the area were named Carpenter.
We found a really interesting "hotel" in the town. It is several strings of box cars that have been remodeled into hotel rooms. The box cars are "real" train cars ... cute idea! We found the Seaboard Box Car and took some pictures so we could show Grand-daddy Carpenter. Each box car had a different company's logo painted on it.
There is also a large train museum full of restored full size train engines and a couple of miniature train museums where you can see huge layouts of toy trains. This town was a little boy's paradise!
